Οι Epica είναι μπάντα συμφωνικού metal από την Ολλανδία , που ιδρύθηκε από τον κιθαρίστα και τραγουδιστή Mark Jansen μετά την αναχώρησή του από τους After Forever.
Είναι γνωστοί για την συμφωνικό ήχο τους, οποίος συνδιάζει τη χρήση φωνητικών (γυναικείων) και κραυγών (αντρικών), από την Simone Simons και τον Mark Jansen, αντίστοιχα . Και τα έξι μέλη συμμετέχουν στη σύνθεση των τραγουδιών τους , ενώ οι στίχοι τους είναι γραμμένοι κυρίως από την Simons και τον Jansen. Τα τραγούδια τους ασχολούνται σε μεγάλο βαθμό με τα φιλοσοφικά θέματα , συμπεριλαμβανομένων της επιστήμης , της θρησκείας , και των παγκοσμίων γεγονότων.
